The Criteser home is a mid century masterpiece, originally designed by notable Portland architect Walter Gordon. The family loved the mid century style, but wanted to open and brighten the space. They hired Emerick Architects to re-imagine the space, and Right Angle Construction for the remodel.
It’s a work in progress, but we have had the opportunity to remodel many aspects of this stunning home over the years.
“We wanted to stay consistent with the era of the home, but modernize it,” says owner Monica Criteser. This is precisely the type of remodel work we specialize in, so we were honored to have the opportunity to work on such a special home.
Monica describes the family of five as “homebodies when we can be,” so we knew they would be spending a lot of time in the newly remodeled space, and we wanted to get all the details precisely correct.
We set about a remodel of the master suite and created a luxurious sauna. The space is open and airy, with broad windows that look out into the treetops. We also revamped the kitchen, family space, dining area and mud room.
This entire project was extremely unique; while we opened up the space and made it brighter and more functional, the details were exact yet subtle. Visitors who have been to the home before often cannot quite pinpoint the changes, other than that the house feels fresher.
Monica says the project turned out great and she loves the new space – in fact she said she loves it so much she tries not to leave the house too often.
“Right now my favorite aspect is the sauna in my master bathroom. I absolutely love it.”
Monica says working with Right Angle Construction was easy. “Right Angle Construction hired reliable subs, they had good follow through and they were very clean.”
The project was huge and Monica says so please it all came together so nicely.
